Ten free Skills

These ten are the official free selection. Install them and WorkBuddy's ceiling is visibly different.

Installation, enabling and security review are covered in Skills.

Install these four first

If you want the minimum viable set, in this order:

OrderSkillWhy
1Office document suiteWithout it, half of office work is impossible
2skill-scannerA security review before installing anything else
3web-searchTime-sensitive questions stop relying on model memory
4find-skillsWhen you do not know what to install, describe the need

The office document suite

Built-in commands: pdf | docx | pptx | xlsx

In office work, the time goes not into writing a prompt but into handling different document formats. These four let WorkBuddy work directly with common office files — reading, generating, cleaning, restructuring and exporting.

What each does

SkillCapability
pdfExtract body text, extract tables, OCR, split and merge, handle forms
docxGenerate documents, restructure, add a table of contents, add page numbers, handle comments and tracked changes
pptxRead existing slides, summarise each one, compress structure, rebuild a presentation
xlsxClean tables, add formulas, tidy columns, output aggregations

Usage advice

  • Use the Skill matching the file you have — the most reliable approach
  • Say what output you want — extract text, generate a new file, add formulas, restructure
  • Work from the original file — less loss from manual format conversion

Install name: web-search | Source: SkillHub

When a question involves "recent", "latest" or "now", model memory alone is not enough. Web Search has WorkBuddy search, organise, then answer, reducing errors caused by stale information.

For: current material, recent news, quickly gathering information in a field, searching before summarising.

text
Search for significant developments in AI office tooling over the past month,
summarise the key points, and include source links.

Advice:

  • Give a time range — "the past week", "the past month", "so far this year"
  • Demand sources — for later verification and citation
  • Good for search-then-write — news round-ups, competitor research, background gathering

Agent Browser

Install name: agent-browser | Source: SkillHub

Lets WorkBuddy enter a page and perform browser-level operations: open, scroll, click, expand, screenshot, read. For pages whose content only appears after interaction, this markedly changes what is reachable.

For: pages needing scrolling, clicking or expanding to read; automatic screenshots; inspecting buttons and form structure; extracting specific information after entering a site.

text
Open this page, read all the content that only appears after expanding and
scrolling, produce a structured summary, and screenshot the key pages for the record.

Division of labour with Web Search

web-search solves "can it be found". agent-browser solves "can it be opened and fully read".

Search results that give you the summary you need: the first. Pages needing scroll-loading or expanding: the second.

Local Whisper

Install name: local-whisper | Source: SkillHub

Local speech-to-text. Once the model is downloaded it runs offline with no online transcription service.

For: transcribing meeting recordings, organising interview material, extracting key points from course audio, turning voice memos into action lists.

text
Transcribe this meeting recording and turn it into minutes with the main
conclusions, action items and owners.

Advice:

  • Local and offline suits privacy scenarios — internal meetings, sensitive interviews
  • Continue processing after transcription — feeds straight into minutes, summaries and to-dos
  • Give it clean audio — accuracy depends on quality, language and accent

Skill Scanner

Install name: skill-scanner | Source: SkillHub

The security tool to install first

Third-party Skills are executable code. Skill Scanner audits a Skill before installation, surfacing suspicious dependencies, hard-coded configuration and potential risks.

Usage: run it before any npm install, plugin install or similar command.

For: auditing a new Skill before installing; checking for suspicious dependencies; finding hard-coded private configuration; a baseline safety net for beginners.

Advice:

  • Audit first, install second — the recommended order
  • Focus on dependencies and scripts — particularly for third-party Skills of unknown origin
  • Keep it enabled long term — make it a fixed step in your install routine

Find Skills

Install name: find-skills | Source: SkillHub

As the Skill ecosystem grows, the barrier stops being installation and becomes choice. Find Skills filters candidates against a need and explains the differences.

For: not knowing whether a Skill already exists for something; wanting a first-pass filter; understanding the difference between candidates.

text
I want WorkBuddy to handle web scraping, screenshots and page interaction.
Find suitable Skills first and explain the differences between them.

Advice:

  • Say the task, do not guess the name — describe the need
  • Good for beginners — markedly lowers trial-and-error cost
  • Compare before installing — weigh purpose and safety before enabling

Obsidian

Install name: obsidian | Source: SkillHub

Lets WorkBuddy into your local knowledge base to read, write, search and organise notes.

For: filing conversation content into notes; adding structure to old notes; searching a vault for a topic; consolidating scattered records into knowledge cards.

text
Turn today's work conversation into an Obsidian note with completed items,
outstanding items and key conclusions, saved to the daily notes directory.

Advice:

  • Good for long-term knowledge accumulation — dailies, weeklies, project records, a personal knowledge base
  • Plan the directory structure first — dailies / projects / ideas / minutes
  • Links up with later notes — supports ongoing search, review and connection

Frontend Design

Install name: frontend-design | Source: SkillHub

Automatically generated pages are often structurally complete but weak on visual hierarchy, colour and polish. This Skill has WorkBuddy consider design, stylistic consistency and presentability while generating front-end pages, not just runnable code.

For: landing and campaign pages; rebuilding dated admin screens; exploring a visual direction quickly; producing a page you can show and demo.

text
Design a landing page for event registration — modern and professional,
foregrounding the sign-up action, the event highlights and trust signals.
Generate something I can preview directly.

Advice:

  • Say what the page is for — display, conversion or reporting each imply different priorities
  • Name the style — modern, minimal, technical, on-brand
  • Good for demo material — quick validation for product, campaign and marketing pages

tl_video_downloader

Install name: tl_video_downloader | Source: SkillHub

Downloads video, extracts audio and subtitles, and hands the content to WorkBuddy for summarising and further processing.

For: downloading videos; extracting audio for transcription; downloading subtitle files; saving study material for AI summarising.

text
Download the subtitles and audio from this video and produce a summary of the
key points when done.

Advice:

  • Decide the purpose first — the video, the audio and the subtitles serve different ends
  • Good for building a study archive — courses, interviews, lectures
  • Keep processing after downloading — summaries, translation, minutes, knowledge cards

Mind the copyright

Downloading video involves content rights. Personal study use and redistribution are different things — be clear which you are doing.

self-improvement

Install name: self-improvement | Source: SkillHub

Has WorkBuddy record experience, preferences and corrections, and prefer them in similar later tasks. The point is that long-term use converges on your actual habits.

For: recording why a task failed; capturing preferences you have corrected explicitly; summarising best practice for a class of work; stopping the AI making the same mistake repeatedly.

Once installed you rarely invoke it manually — WorkBuddy draws on the accumulated experience where relevant.

An example: mention in one conversation that you are from Hubei but do not like spicy food, and later conversations may carry that preference forward.

Advice:

  • Best for long-term users — the effect grows with time
  • Explicit corrections work best — state the right preference when it misreads you
  • Good for personal habits — writing style, content preferences, fixed processes

How it differs from Memory

Memory is a built-in product capability, extracted nightly from conversations, viewable, editable and deletable in settings.

self-improvement is a Skill, accumulating experience and corrections. Where its data is stored, whether it can be viewed, edited or cleared, and whether it syncs across devices — the official advice is to check SkillHub.

They can be used together.

One reminder before installing

Third-party Skills are executable code

Even Skills on a curated list act as you, on your machine.

Running skill-scanner first is the cheapest self-protection available.

The full pre-install checklist is in Skills.

And remember the advice that keeps recurring: only enable what the current task needs. Installing ten does not mean running ten.
